Metzgar Issues Statement on Passage of Castle Doctrine Legislation
HARRISBURG – Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Somerset) today issued the following statement regarding the passage of House Bill 40, known as the “Castle Doctrine” legislation.

“I am proud to be a cosponsor of House Bill 40, known as the Castle Doctrine legislation, and am pleased that the House has agreed that law-abiding citizens should be able to protect themselves from criminals when in their homes and occupied vehicles. There was a great deal of work done to prompt a handful of members to stop bottling-up the bill, and allow it to go forward for a full vote.

“It is a shame that it has taken this long to pass this common-sense legislation that speaks directly to the safety of our citizens, but this battle is not over yet. We must continue to keep this legislation moving to passage in the Senate, and to have it signed into law by the governor.

“Our citizens deserve to feel safe in their homes and occupied vehicles, and they have a guaranteed right to the legal ownership of firearms. This bill advances that protection under the Constitution of Pennsylvania, and strengthens the right to self-defense.”
