SOMERSET – Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Bedford/Somerset) announced today that $290,000 in grant funding has been awarded to 22 emergency medical and fire companies in Somerset County.

“Our first responders, most of which are volunteers, provide excellent service to those in need every day. They rightly deserve this grant funding to continue and improve that service,” Metzgar said. “I congratulate these departments for having the foresight to not only apply for this grant, but also to have plans in place to use the funding to better the community.”

The funding is part of a grant program created by the General Assembly and administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and Office of the State Fire Commissioner. Fire and emergency services organizations use the funds for construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, or reduction of existing debt.
