Metzgar Provides Update on CSX Derailment in Hyndman
August 14, 2017
HYNDMAN – Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Bedford/Somerset) toured the CSX train derailment site in Hyndman on Wednesday where he met with affected residents and CSX, local and state officials.
“First and foremost, I want to thank the first responders – the fire, police and medical services – who have been working at the site and with residents during this time of great trial,” Metzgar said. “Their efforts have made the evacuation of residents go as smoothly as possible.”
Currently, 42 homes close to the site of the derailment remain unoccupied. Metzgar said he’s hopeful the remaining residents will be permitted to return home within the next couple of days. State police continue to safeguard the site.
“Since the derailment and ensuing fire, state agencies have been working diligently with local and federal officials, as well as with CSX officials, to ensure the safety of residents,” Metzgar said. “Thankfully, no one was hurt in the incident.”
