HARRISBURG – Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Bedford/Somerset) today announced Somerset Area School District will receive a $148,569 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) grant.

“This is the first year Somerset Area School District will receive a 21st CCLC grant,” Metzgar said. “Funding is to be used to help students meet state and local standards in core areas of academics, including reading, math and science, through an after-school program.”

The program for which the funding is earmarked also offers students a broad array of enrichment activities and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.

The intent of the 21st CCLC program is to help create community learning centers to provide education enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, especially those who attend high-poverty and low performing schools.
