Metzgar Announces State Grant for Windber Pre-K Program

August 4, 2017

HARRISBURG – Children in the Windber Area School District in Somerset County will benefit from a $170,000 grant to help with the school’s early education initiatives, Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Somerset/Bedford) announced today.

The grant is from the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Pre-K Counts Program, which supports pre-kindergarten education for families with limited means.

“Introducing children to quality education programs before they enter kindergarten not only helps to get them off on the right foot but also enhances their overall education,” Metzgar said. “Access to quality pre-K programs can save schools money in the long term and gives children the head start they need to thrive.”

Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts, established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, is helping to bring pre-K education to nearly 19,000 children ages 3 and 4 across the Commonwealth.
