Senior Center in Somerset Receives Grant, Metzgar Says

HARRISBURG – Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Bedford/Somerset) announced today the Somerset Senior Community Center in Somerset County is the recipient of a $35,940 grant. The 2016-17 Senior Community Center Award Grant program is through the Department of Aging.

“The Somerset Senior Community Center, the largest senior center in the county, provides older residents with a safe place to go where they can enjoy a meal; spend time with friends; take part in educational, exercise and other programs; and receive health services,” Metzgar said. “This grant program is funded through the Pennsylvania Lottery so no taxpayer dollars were used.”

Grant money must be used to improve and expand services, such as by advancing projects to modernize facilities, encourage technology improvements, enhance innovative programming, attract new members, build on successful practices and help to meet the needs of center attendees.
