HARRISBURG – The Rockwood Area School District has been awarded a $25,000 Safe Schools Targeted Grant, according to Rep. Carl Metzgar (R-Somerset/Bedford). The funding will be used to purchase equipment to better protect students.

“The last thing students and parents should ever need to worry about - when it comes to obtaining an education – is safety,” said Metzgar. “Our children must be adequately protected from any known or unforeseen circumstances so they can be effective in the classroom. I am pleased to see the Rockwood Area School District receive crucial funding.”

The Safe Schools Targeted Grant Program is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and funded by the General Assembly through this year’s state budget. A total of $8 million in grant funding was awarded to schools statewide.

PDE’s Office for Safe Schools offers four types of safety grants: equipment grants of up to $25,000; program grants of up to $20,000; School Police Officer (SPO) grants of up to $40,000; and School Resource Officer (SRO) grants of up to $60,000.
