Metzgar Announces Office Policy Changes in Response to COVID-19 Concerns
March 16, 2020
HARRISBURG – In efforts to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Bedford/Somerset) is temporarily closing his district offices to in-person visits.
“In light of recommendations we are receiving from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and public health authorities, limiting direct contact among individuals is the reasonable and prudent action to take at this time,” Metzgar said.
Last week, Gov. Tom Wolf announced the statewide closure of all K-12 schools and urged the closure of non-essential businesses in affected areas. Additionally, the governor ordered the closure of the state Capitol complex to all visitors, tour groups and non-essential employees. Access is restricted to essential employees with a valid employee badge.
Public health officials have recommended “social distancing” measures be implemented and followed to slow and limit spread of the virus, which can be transmitted by individuals who do not have symptoms. Anyone requiring assistance with state government issues is still able to contact Metzgar’s offices by telephone:
· Somerset district office: 814-443-4230.
· Windber district office: 814-467-4011.
· Hyndman district office: 814-842-3362.
