Metzgar, Stefano Invite Local Veterans to be Honored
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Somerset/Bedford) and Sen. Pat Stefano (R-Fayette/Somerset/Westmoreland) will be hosting a Veteran’s Program in celebration of Veteran’s Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m., at the Somerset Country Club, located at
416 Plank Road in Somerset.
“Our veterans are no strangers to hardship. Even in these difficult times, we owe it to our veterans to see that they receive the recognition they deserve,” said Metzgar. “I encourage all veterans from the 69th District who have served our great nation to attend and I look forward to meeting with these wonderful heroes.”
The event will feature a special guest speaker, Jake Whipkey. Jake joined the United States Army in 2004 where he became an Infantryman at Ft. Benning in Georgia. Jake was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received while serving his second tour of duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. After being medically retired in 2009, Jake returned to his hometown of Boswell where he lives with his fiancé, Sara, and his sons Camden and Easton.
“I’m proud to partner with Rep. Metzgar this Veteran’s Day to pay tribute to our local veterans. During this time of tumultuous election emotions, I find it fitting that we pause and honor these fine men and women who have made it possible to have these elections,” added Stefano. “They left their friends and family behind to protect our nation and our American ideals. And for this we say, “Thank you!”
All United States military veterans are welcome at the event, and no registration is required.
