Metzgar Reminds Residents that $1 Fishing Licenses Will Be Offered on Labor Day
8/28/2017
SOMERSET – State Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Beford/Somerset) is reminding residents that they can get involved in the sport of fishing on Labor Day, which is Monday, Sept. 4, through a reduced-price $1 license through the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.

“Fishing is an extremely relaxing pastime for many Pennsylvanians,” Metzgar said. “This special, one-day rate will entice more people to take up the hobby and will get more people to enjoy the great outdoors.”

The reduced $1 license for adult residents and non-residents is good for Labor Day only.

A second opportunity to attract more people to fishing is the Mentored Youth Panfish Day, which provides youth anglers, who have obtained a free mentored youth permit or have purchased a voluntary youth license, an opportunity to fish on 19 Panfish Enhancement lakes. Panfish include bluegill, pumpkinseed and redear sunfish, which are collectively called sunfish; black and white crappies; and yellow perch.

Nineteen lakes in the state will be open to all anglers all day, but only mentored youth participants (adults and kids) may keep fish under the minimum size. Quemahoning Reservoir in Somerset County is one of the 19 lakes.

Youth anglers, ages 15 and under, must obtain a Mentored Youth Fishing Permit or Voluntary Youth Fishing License and be accompanied by a licensed adult angler in order to participate. Both permits and licenses can be obtained at GoneFishingPA.com.
