Reps. Topper, Metzgar Praise JLG’s Bedford Facility’s Safety Record
BEDFORD – JLG Industries Inc.’s facility in Bedford received a Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star award from the United State Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), state Reps. Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Fulton/Franklin) and Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Somerset/Bedford) announced.

VPP Star awards are presented to businesses that OSHA identified as having made extraordinary strides to keep workers safe through occupational safety and health practices and keeps injury and illness rates below national Bureau of Labor Statistics averages for their respective industry. To apply for a VPP Star award, employers must submit an application and undergo a meticulous onsite evaluation by a team of safety and health professionals.

“JLG is the first company in the access equipment industry and the first facility in Bedford County to obtain this prestigious award,” Topper said. “The company stands as a shining example in our community and the industry for its commitment to the safety of its employees. All workers deserve to return home safe at the end of the day.”

Metzgar and Topper presented company officials with a citation issued by the House of Representatives to mark its achievement.

JLG, which is based in McConnellsburg and is an Oshkosh Corporation company, is the manufacturer of access equipment, often called aerial work platforms. Its Bedford facility reconditions equipment.

“I am pleased to help recognize the outstanding work being done by JLG to maintain a safe work environment and wish the firm my sincere congratulations,” said Metzgar. “JLG is a major employer in this region which has provided good-paying jobs and serves as an economic engine which adds to our quality of life. The dedication that this company has to Bedford, and the region as a whole, is very evident in the results it creates.”
