Vietnam Era Veterans Recognition Ceremony
2/12/2016
Vietnam Era Veterans Recognition Ceremony

A Vietnam Era Recognition Addendum Ceremony to honor veterans from Somerset and Cambria counties will take place Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. This will be held at the Hiram G. Andrews Center, 727 Goucher St., Johnstown.

Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. This follows the event that was held on Nov. 1 of last year.

The event is sponsored by VFW Post 554, Somerset; Vietnam Veterans of America, Laurel Highlands Chapter 364; Conemaugh Valley Veterans; and the Veterans Community Initiatives Office.

This ceremony is for veterans who served from 1961-75 and will mark the 41st anniversary of the end of that war.

It is a way to say thank you for the brave service that those veterans have given to our Commonwealth and nation.

Each veteran will receive a special personalized recognition certificate and a thank you medallion. In addition, a commemorative lapel pin will be awarded.

I am honored to take part in this ceremony along with a number of my House colleagues, members of Congress, our two U.S senators and Gov. Tom Wolf, among others.

This is a free event for veteran and family members.

Please contact the Veteran Community Initiatives Office at (814) 255-0355 no later than Monday, Feb. 22, to provide contact information and proof of veteran status.

It was a pleasure to have Mr. and Mrs. Gerber and these homeschooled children visit the Capitol recently.
